Automated bicycle bridge
For the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, Breston has automated the bicycle and walking bridge in Brouwershaven.
By realizing this automated bridge there is a possibility for new cycling and walking routes around the Brouwershaven. As a local partner in this project, Hanse Staalbouw took care of the structural execution. Brouwershaven is a successful continuation of a similar project in the port of Goeree-Overflakkee. The difference, however, is that the engineering of the bridge has now been carried out in-house.
The work carried out was very diverse and extensive, with the cable route under water to the other side of the sluice being the most challenging. The delivery consisted of a main control with two control columns. These pillars contain the drives of the fences and the necessary safety equipment.
For the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, Breston has automated the bicycle and walking bridge in Brouwershaven.
The standard retracted bridge gives shipping free passage. In this situation, the access to the bridge is completely closed off with a fence. If a cyclist, pedestrian or wheelchair user wishes to cross the sluice, he or she will register by pressing the button on the stainless steel access column. On the glass screen the passer-by can then follow the process in terms of time. This process includes a scan of any obstacles in the water, such as boats and large pieces of driftwood. When it has not seen any obstacles, the bridge slides out over the water. During this movement the bridge deck is also scanned intensively. This is done by means of 2D scanners, among others. The information gathered with these scanners is then processed on a safety PLC. The bridge is no moving when something is detected in the scanning field. In short, the security of the bridge is at a very high level, nothing is left to chance. The smart combination of drive, control, security and operation makes a decisive contribution to this.
